A CHANNEL EXCLUSIVE: Hear composer/music journalist Frank J. Oteri lead a discussion with PICA Artistic Director Kristy Edmunds and Creative Capital Program Director for Media and Performing Arts Esther Robinson. PICA's first annual Time-Based Art Festival, held September 12-21, 2003, is intended as a bold new look into the contemporary arena of time-based art, including theater, media, dance, music, and mixed disciplines.

Frank J. Oteri is a New York-based composer and the Editor of NewMusicBox, the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award-winning Web magazine from the American Music Center.

CREATIVE CAPITAL CHANNEL WEBCASTS

Eight Creative Capital grantees are included in PICA's TBA Festival, several of which are featured in the Creative Capital Channel Webcasts section.


In What Language? is an urban song cycle, combining music by pianist-composer Vijay Iyer with spoken text by poet/hip-hop artist Mike Ladd, depicting the interior monologues of various travelers and laborers at an international airport. Listen to streaming audio from In What Language?.


Miranda July employs sound, video, prayer, levitation and the audience in her latest work-in-progress performance st the TBA festival. On the Creative Capital Channel, you can hear webcasts of spoken word audio pieces that she created for "The Next Big Thing," a radio show produced by New York NPR member station WNYC, Independent Crime Crime Crime Crime Crime and Bruce Lee.


Since Donna Uchizono's choreographic debut in 1988, Uchizono rapidly emerged from the "downtown scene" as a choreographer known for her spicy movement, wit and rich invention. View dance video from Low and State of Heads.


Daniel Bernard Roumain's I, Composer brings together recorded hip-hop beats and classical string quartet with electric violin and sampled street sounds to depict the sounds of Harlem. Hear selections from I, Composer, including Filtering, Her, and Wynne.


Shelley Hirsch is a vocalist, improviser, and composer. At the TBA Festival, she will perform A Rupture in the Order of Reality, a historical collage of Jewish culture that integrates diverse source material, interactive video, and animated text.
